E-bikes and the HansCruiser

In this blog post, we’ll take a quick look at e-bikes in general and see how the HansCruiser fits into that category. E-bikes are a relatively new phenomenon on Finnish streets, but they are growing in popularity. Sales numbers are rising rapidly in Central Europe, and we believe Finland will see a similar trend. Recent changes in Finnish legislation will likely support this, as all types of e-bikes are now allowed on the streets.

E-bikes can broadly be divided into two categories: e-bikes with pedal assist and e-bikes with power on demand. With pedal assist, the motor only engages when the rider is pedalling. With the new e-bikes with power on demand, you can cruise on your bike without having to pedal at all (unless you want to, of course!). How cool is that?

Regardless of whether you ride a pedal-assist or power-on-demand e-bike, motor assistance will cut off when you reach the speed of 25 km/h. In pedal-assist e-bikes, the maximum motor power is 250 watts; in power-on-demand models, the maximum motor power is one kilowatt. If you have an e-bike with power on demand, make sure you also have traffic insurance – it’s a requirement in Europe!

E-bikes come in various models with a variety of features. They usually look like normal mountain or city bikes, but they come with detachable and rechargeable batteries. E-bikes perform best on fairly short distances and offer an excellent alternative to a car. For example, your commute could be much faster on an e-bike, especially during rush hour. An e-bike takes first place when you’re riding for fun, too.

How does the HansCruiser classify? The HansCruiser is motored, but it’s not your traditional e-bike, and it’s not designed to be one. Our idea is to use a motor to make getting about easy, but we also want to add technology to make your ride better than ordinary (and we’ve got some cool stuff coming up – keep an eye on our blog!). For us, the design and features of the bike are the most important thing: we want to offer you a laid-back cruising experience.

The HansCruiser comes with either pedal assist or an on-demand power system to ensure easy riding, but what it’s all about is offering you a comfortable ride while you’re out and about. The HansCruiser offers you a relaxed and technologically advanced way of cruising.

  1. Finding them in bike shops isn’t as difficult as it once was, and their cost has fallen as the price of lithium-ion batteries has dropped.
